Nature is nourishment
No matter how many twists and turns the path may bring, it’s always within our power to find Light in the Little Things.
LITTLE LANDSCAPES - BIG IDEAS
When faced with horizons and conflicts more challenging than ever before, I turn to nature for nourishment. The idea of a sacred place where the temporal walls dissolve to reveal a wonder, and the symbols to be contemplated in the landscape itself.
I learn a lot about creativity by observing nature. Nature is filled with endless beauty and possibility, powered by a force that favors growth, expansion, and creation. The intimate tango of ruthlessness and radiance gives nature its timeless edge in penetrating the soul. In restoring the stillness and stability I know is already within.
Oftentimes, I need to physically climb a mountain to remind myself of my capacity to climb - mentally, emotionally, and spiritually - and my dogged dedication to finding beauty amid the spiritual wreckage. When I submerge myself in the vastness of nature, I am humbled, and an overwhelming sense of mission eclipse my fears.
NOURISH YOUR HEART SPACE + WALL SPACE
These tiny textured treasures of lush viridian fields and liberally-dotted flowers evoke a sense of tranquility for the unknown. Half-imagined, half-curated scenes of paths that twist, turn and fade into the distance. Using thick daubs of acrylic paint with palette knives, each little landscape painting is full of tonal hues combined with an intention of texture to achieve visuals reminiscent of impressionist paintings.
Creating expressive works that appear to come to out from the paper, these impasto acrylic landscapes are a gentle reminder that no matter how many twists and turns the path may bring, it’s always within our power to find light in the little things.
The “Nature is Nourishment” Collection
constrained creativity - my methodology
Sometimes, an artist needs to tie one hand behind their back. Experiment with the unfamiliar and leverage self-imposed limitations to leap higher. There is profound freedom from constrained creativity, visionary originality that explodes in the face of fundamental limits. Limits have incited revolutions! Constraints create an environment that demands unleashing that which would otherwise remain untapped.
This series began with a need to detach myself from the outcome and trust my artistic force. To cultivate my creative intuition, I limited the amount of time (20 minutes), materials (palette knives, subtraction tool, and a single paintbrush), or colors to create these tiny, textured acrylic landscape paintings.
The objective was to do, not try. Feel, not think. With the clock counting down, I was forced to face the awkwardness of an unfamiliar tool to paint with.
Although I completed 95% of the paintings within the time constraint, a few touches of love and light were added after the paint dried to make these tiny treasures extra special for you.
