”MasterMind” is a recently completed commission for collectors, and dear friends, in Long Island, NY. My intention was to capture the essence of their wine, rendering an exquisite composition that epitomizes the true spirit of a vineyard. The vineyard is set amidst a vast expanse of lush, rolling hills that stretch as far as the eye can see, bathed in the golden glow of a setting sun.

After sketching out the composition and applying an undercoat of thinly applied acrylic paint to cover the thirsty canvas, I collaged the label onto the surface to preserve the intricacies of the logo which hold many personal and family ties to the creators of Tesoro Wine Merchants. The first layers of oil paint are thinly applied revealing the texture of the canvas. As subsequent layers are applied, I begin to manipulate the consistency of the paint, building up thickness and blending colors to create a symphony of hue - a classical technique used by the masters called “fat-over-lean.”

The attention to detail makes it impossible to resist the temptation to wander into this mesmerizing landscape. Every brushstroke has been crafted to convey the complexity, depth, and sophistication that lies within every bottle of "MasterMind" wine.
